South Side — Green Jewel

The Green Jewel of Providence is a city park tucked quietly away in the South Side of Providence, one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city, a neighborhood that formerly had limited access to green space. The park is at the center of a housing development that spans three blocks. The neighborhood is composed of rowhouses, each containing two stacked duplex apartments, which offer residents the chance to convert the first two floors into stores as a source of income. In the center of the community, the brick walls change to a living facade that invites visitors to forget the city and enter into an urban wilderness.
